In 2009, PIC embarked on a new initiative called Science in the Pub, wherein we brought two speakers (typically with opposing views or different standpoints on an issue) in front of a small audience of about 30 people.
The speakers addressed a poultry expert industry panel (4 or 5 people) on innovations and cutting edge research, the future and world view of different areas of research or special interests. The panel then responds as to where they see these innovations, research and future scenarios fitting into their envisioned future of their area of expertise in the poultry industry.
The aim of this exercise to stimulate about 2 hours of lively discussion between and among the audience, the panel members and the invited guests on the applicability of what they’ve heard on poultry and to explore how promising ideas that surface might be applied in our research programs and eventually by industry.
