Poultry Industry Council is currently seeking a Communications and Project Coordinator to join our team.
The Poultry Industry Council (PIC) is a registered educational charity with a full-time staff of 3 and a volunteer board of 12 members comprised of farmers, industry representatives and marketing board appointees. The organisation has 140 members and focuses on the Ontario poultry sector by offering education and extension programs to farmers, industry and farm advisors for the betterment of the sector overall. Currently we are finishing up a strategic plan that will enable PIC to take its programs and membership value to the next horizon.
We are searching for a skilled team player who will be primarily responsible for developing, overseeing and implementing a robust communications strategy to support our key programs and initiatives. This position will also assist with project management and supporting other activities related to ongoing grants, new resource development and contributing to a robust online learning resource.
The successful candidate will liaise with internal and external stakeholders including members and partner organizations to promote PIC services and resources to farmers and industry across Ontario.
Reporting to the Executive Director, and with the support of the PIC team, the Communications and Project Coordinator is responsible for the coordination, and execution of a robust PIC promotions strategy that includes targeted initiatives for our membership, specific events promotions (Biannual Innovations Conference, etc.), ongoing resource promotion (emergency planning) and ongoing initiatives as needed.
We are seeking a creative and strategic thinker with preference for someone with general knowledge of Ontario’s poultry and agricultural community. Strong leadership skills and a can-do attitude are a must!

Key Position Responsibilities and Duties:
- Work closely with PIC’s Executive Director to support the development of a strong communication plan to support the launch and delivery of a roster of events and programs.
- Lead project plan schedules, budgets, and achievement of program goals and objectives
- Writing and editing news releases, speaking notes, web content, social media messages and a variety of other communications materials
- Consistent monitoring, analysis and measuring of the impact and effectiveness of communications activities and messaging
- Contribute to PIC’s website, newsletters and other materials to members, industry stakeholders and benefit partners
- Attend PIC’s events including day long workshops, our biannual Innovations Conference and evening social events, as well as our annual tradeshow in London, Ontario with displays and/or materials
- Maintenance of promotional material inventory and distribution of materials
- Participate in internal meetings, including industry opportunities for further networking and learning
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Degree and/or experience in Marketing, Business Management, Agriculture
- Knowledge, understanding and experience within Ontario’s agriculture and food industry an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, editing, presentation, organizational, and problem-solving skills are required
- A G class driver’s license is required and/or access to transportation to ensure attendance at required meetings and events.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong written and verbal communications skills and ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
- Possesses strong organization skills and manages time efficiently
- Above average ability to motivate, work independently and within a team environment
- Demonstrates creativity and attention to detail
- Proficient graphic design experience and abilities are an asset (ability to use Canva or equivalent acceptable!)
- Advanced knowledge, understanding and use of social media platforms
- Knowledge and experience using web content management systems, with specific reference to WordPress
- Knowledge and experience using Google Analytics and social media monitoring and management tools
- Computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Video editing software and Website management would be considered a strong asset
- Outgoing nature with the ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues, industry partners, members and external audiences
Working Conditions:
- Working out of PIC’s head office in Arkell with flexible work arrangements available
- Usually works a standard thirty-five (35) hour work week
- A valid Ontario driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation
This role is primarily a desk job, with extended periods of sitting, reading, telephone interaction, and/or working at the computer. Attendance at various meetings throughout the workday/workweek will be required; meetings may occur on short notice, depending on the circumstances.
Some travel required within Ontario and work outside of normal office hours to trade shows, meetings and events. Travel may require an overnight stay, depending on location.
This position is a one-year full time contract with possibility for extension.
