Breakfast Meeting Series

The Breakfast Meeting Series are short morning sessions that take advantage of special industry speakers visiting Ontario. These featured speakers are often in Canada for a limited amount of time and could not otherwise be worked into the agenda of one of PIC’s annual meetings. Our Breakfast Meeting Series allows the Ontario industry an opportunity to hear from these experts in a formal setting that is complimentary to their busy schedules. Pay close attention to PICs newsletters, website and social media posts as these sessions occur sporadically throughout the year.

Our first PIC Breakfast meeting was held on July 13, 2017 and featured Dr. Kerry Mulqueen from Auckland, New Zealand.

Poultry Industry Council (PIC) in partnership with the Livestock Research Innovation Corporation (LRIC) presented Dr. Kerry Mulqueen, as a part of our breakfast meeting series. Kerry is a poultry veterinarian from Auckland, New Zealand. He works as the Senior Technical Adviser for the Egg Farmers for New Zealand, the Poultry Meat Producers of New Zealand and the New Zealand Feed Manufacturers Association. His presentation encompassed how the New Zealand poultry industry has changed following the removal of supply management as well as some additional topics.

Our second Breakfast meeting was held in partnership with Trillium Hatchery on April 5, 2018, and featured guest speaker Dr. Peter Ferket.

Dr. Ferket is a poultry nutritionist and extension specialist from North Carolina State University. He specializes in nutrition and feeding of commercial poultry, with an emphasis on turkeys and broilers. A considerable amount of Peter’s research focuses on in-ovo and early nutrition and it’s impact on the health and longevity of meat birds. Dr. Ferket spoke about perinatal nutrition and early feeding as the key to success for birds on antibiotic-free programs.
